How to Create a Production Template

Short answer

Switch on Production under Settings → Menu & Modules. Open Production → Production Templates and click New Template. Choose the finished product, how many one batch makes, any batch wastage, and whether materials leave stock when the product is sold (Make to order) or when it is made (Make to stock). Add each material and its quantity per batch, and save.

A production template records what one batch of a product is made of, so a run never has to be typed from scratch: 500 meat pies need 2 bags of flour and 500 boxes.

Switch on Production under Settings → Menu & Modules. Materials should be products marked Not for selling, with stock and a cost.

Steps

  1. Open Production → Production Templates and click New Template.
  2. Choose the Finished product.
  3. Enter the Batch output: how many one batch makes, and the Output unit.
  4. Enter the Batch wastage % for offcuts, breakage and spillage, if any.
  5. Choose When materials leave stock:
    • Make to order: materials come off when the product is sold. For things made only when a customer asks, such as a plate of food.
    • Make to stock: materials come off when the goods are made, recorded as a production run. For a bakery or factory building stock ahead of sales.
  6. Under Materials, use Add material for each one, with its quantity per batch and any wastage. Its stock is shown beside it.
  7. Add Production instructions if you like, and save.

Quantities are per batch, exactly as it is made.

A product can have more than one template, such as "Winter recipe" and "v2". Tick Default template on the one a run should use first, and untick Active to stop one being used.

Common questions
