How to Add Tax Rates
Short answer
Open Settings → Tax Rates and click Add. Enter a Name and the Tax Rate %. To charge several taxes together, such as VAT with levies, add each one ticked For tax group only, then combine them under Tax groups. Choose the tax on each product or on the sale.
Add each tax you charge once. After that, choose it on a product (so it is added to that product's price) or on a whole sale.
Add a tax rate
- Open Settings → Tax Rates.
- Under All your tax rates, click Add.
- Enter the Name, such as "VAT", and the Tax Rate %, such as 15.
- If this tax is only ever charged together with others, tick For tax group only. If it is worked out on the price plus the other taxes, tick Compound tax.
- Save.

Charge several taxes together
- Add each tax separately, ticked For tax group only.
- Under Tax groups ( Combination of multiple taxes ), click Add.
- Name the group and choose its Sub taxes. Save. The group's rate is the total of its taxes.
Use it
- On a product: edit the product and choose it under Applicable Tax (in More Fields), with Selling Price Tax Type set to inclusive or exclusive.
- On a sale: choose it as the order tax on Add Sale or the POS.
What you charged and paid is in Reports → Tax.
Common questions
Do I have to use taxes?
No. If you are not registered for VAT, add no rates and no tax is charged.
I changed a rate. Are old sales changed?
No. Each sale keeps the tax it was made with.
