The single cheapest change most shops can make to their checkout speed. Instead of finding a product in a list, the cashier pulls the trigger and the item is on the receipt.

This is a 2D scanner, which matters more than it sounds. As well as ordinary product barcodes it reads QR codes — including payment QR codes and codes printed on phone screens, which a cheaper 1D laser scanner simply cannot see.

It comes with an adjustable gooseneck stand, and that is the part people underestimate. Seated in the stand it scans as you pass items across it, leaving both hands free to bag — that is how supermarket lanes keep moving. Lift it out and it is an ordinary handheld for bulky items and shelf counts.

Available wired or wireless. Wired is simpler and never needs charging; wireless suits long counters, stock counts down the aisles, and anywhere a cable would be in the way.
